A Parish Art Workshop

Uncommon    Icons

10:00am - 3:00pm

Saturday, March 3, 2018

The word icon means image, or a representation of a religious subject, most notably images of Christ or Mary, His mother, and well-known saints. There are so many lesser known or obscure personalities, uncommon people, in Scripture whose stories deserve to be honored. The word 'uncommon' is synonymous with rare, curious, extraordinary, outlandish, strange, or, unfamiliar. Who can you think of in Scripture who might fit the description of “uncommon?”

Join us on Saturday, March 3 from 10am to 3pm, with a one hour lunch break (light lunch provided by St. Mary’s). Embark on an individual or community creative journey to discover why these personalities are mentioned in the Bible and to create uncommon icons from a variety of art media which capture their significant stories in symbol, design and image.

Anyone can be part of this project, or be trained with a little effort and imagination!
